When mine were little and we would go out to eat and one of them acted up, I would say in a loud voice "I told you we shouldn't have brought the neighbors kids!" It would cause the parents at the nearby tables to smile and diffuse any situation.

Funny about the dinner. I don't know which would be more annoying, the fact that her husband has worse manners than the kids, or listening to her lecture them.

My thought is leave the kids at home till they are old enough to go on in nice restaurants.
