  2. Ms Topiary: That tree is the Boab tree which grows mostly in the drier parts of Australia. http://on-walkabout.com/2008/05/15/friday-eco-fact-australias-incredible-boab-trees/

    The trunk increases in size as the tree gets older and, if I recall, water is stored in that trunk - or can be accessed if need be.

    They are very impressive in the wild when you see a big one.
